Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Our Pediatric Occupational Therapy program helps children build the skills they need for everyday life—at home, in school, and in the community. Through practical, play-based activities, we focus on fine motor development, sensory processing, self-care routines, and problem-solving for greater independence. When services are authorized by a school district/DOE or through New York State Early Intervention (birth–3), they are provided at no cost to eligible families. Many insurance plans also cover occupational therapy.

Helping Children Build Independence for Everyday Life

Occupational therapy supports children as they learn daily living skills for play, learning, and self-care. At Knowledge Road, licensed pediatric occupational therapists provide individualized therapy addressing sensory processing, fine motor skills, attention, and organization.

We specialize in early intervention for ages 0–3 and also serve preschool- and school-age students. Sessions are engaging, child-centered, and delivered where children learn best—at home, in school, in the community, or in our clinic.

With this service, we provide:

  • One-on-one sessions with a licensed pediatric occupational therapist
  • Early intervention expertise for children ages 0–3
  • Personalized therapy plans informed by comprehensive sensory, motor, and cognitive assessments
  • Sensory integration activities to improve responses to touch, sound, and movement
  • Fine-motor practice (grasping, cutting, drawing, manipulating small objects)
  • Daily living skills training for dressing, feeding, hygiene, and organization
  • Collaboration with parents, caregivers, and educators to support carryover at home and school

This service is designed to:

  • Strengthen fine motor skills for writing, cutting, and other classroom tasks
  • Improve sensory processing for better attention, behavior, and learning
  • Build self-care abilities and safe, independent routines
  • Increase participation at home, at school, and in community settings
  • Support social–emotional growth through successful participation in activities

Why This Service Matters

Occupational therapy helps bridge the gap between what a child can do today and what they need to do to be independent. By weaving sensory, motor, and cognitive goals into playful, meaningful activities, children make steady, measurable progress.
